I am running as a candidate in the 2025 municipal elections for the Kerava City Council on the Kerava Greens list.

I have served as a city councilor for the past two terms. Over the last four years, I have been at the heart of decision-making in Kerava as a member of the city board. These years have equipped me with the ability to navigate the complexities of political decision-making, and I believe I am now well-equipped to make impactful Green policies in Kerava. I am well-networked and known as a calm and co-operative politician.

I did not enter local decision-making with party politics in mind. I am far more interested in the well-being of my hometown than in political disputes. At the same time, it must be acknowledged that politics is, above all, a team effort, and everyone needs a suitable group around them. Among political parties, the Greens’ ideology aligns best with my values, even though I do not always agree on everything. My thoughts align quite well with the principles of the Finnish Greens for Science and Technology.

I have been active in the communities around me throughout my life: in student councils, associations, and housing co-operatives. In my youth, I even served one term on the Kerava church council. I am interested in what happens around me, and participating to make an impact is a natural way for me to act. In my work, I am involved in information system projects, where collaboration with others plays a central role.

I believe in decision-making based on facts and researched knowledge. In politics, it is also important to understand opinions that differ from one’s own, but decisions must always be based on sustainable grounds. Matters should be handled rationally, even if it sometimes feels unpleasant — I say no to populist point-scoring.

Kerava has traditionally maintained strict financial discipline, and rightly so. At the same time, it is essential to ensure the city’s vitality and, through it, the well-being of its residents. This is closely tied to the quality of services, which must not be eroded by overly tight fiscal policies.

Municipal decision-making is not an individual sport. Cooperation and compromises must be made across party lines. The transparency of decision-making should be further increased, and residents’ access to information and opportunities to influence should be improved. We still have much work to do in this area. A municipality reflects its residents, and that is why we need everyone, regardless of age, gender, or skin color. The social safety nets must be built in such a way that those in weaker positions are cared for collectively.

I am a fourth-generation Kerava resident, and through previous generations, the history of our city has gained significant meaning. I believe that politics should be conducted with a long-term perspective to ensure that Kerava remains the best place to live for future generations. I do not want to be profiled as a councilor for a specific group of people or generation but aim to advocate for Kerava’s interests equally. I entered politics with the long-term development of the city in mind.

Our generation in decision-making positions must do everything we can to ensure that future generations have the opportunity to enjoy nature and a green Kerava. I believe that climate change is one of the biggest challenges of our lifetime to solve. This should also be reflected at the municipal level by supporting choices that align with the principles of sustainable development. The economy can temporarily adjust and recover, but the probabilities are not as favorable with the environment.
